Board, Operations, and Committees

Board of Directors

Meet the people who lead the governance, strategy, and financial health of the Traverse City Curling Club:

**denotes Executive Committee

**Cara Colburn, Board President

**Kevin Byrne, Board Vice President

**Jill Riecke, Board Secretary

Jill started curling at the age of 12 in a very small town in the Canadian prairie province of Saskatchewan. As for most growing up there, curling was a way of life and she became involved in many leagues and bonspiels and eventually curled quite competitively in high school. Her career as an orthoptist brought her to Michigan almost 20 years ago, and she has had limited opportunities to curl since. She is thrilled to see curling come to TC and very excited to be able to share her knowledge and love of the game with our board and with the community. See you in Learn To Curl class!

**Pamela Smith, Board Treasurer

Pamela Smith is currently retired after a 30-year career with CGI, where she was the Vice President of the Financial Solutions Group, responsible for the strategy, marketing, software development and solution implementation for consumer banking credit solutions, and corporate banking payments and trade solutions, globally. She started her career in social work, spent a few years along the way in real estate sales and has volunteered in a variety of capacities with many non-profit organizations over the years. This has allowed her to continue to leverage her unique combination of social work and computer science degrees. She and her husband Roger joined the TCCC in 2018 and while the curling is enjoyable, Pamela is drawn to volunteer her time to help grow the organization based on its focus on building a social sport that invites all members of the local community. She hails from Pennsylvania and after spending a lot of years circling the globe, she now lives in Traverse City with her husband, and fellow curler, Roger.

**Don Piche, Founding President

Dr. Don Piche is no stranger to Centre Ice. Having spent years as a hockey coach, referee, player and fan, he was also a confessed closet curling fan…until now! After years of watching Olympic curling, conversations led to bringing curling to TC for our April 2014 Open House. The success of this event and the enthusiasm that ensued led to the formation of the TC Curling Club. The success seen in the growth of the club was recognized in 2016, as Don was named US Curling Association’s Volunteer of the Year.  He is married to Dr. Julie Brons, his partner at Performance Chiropractic. Together they have four boys, Keenan, Nikolaj, Jonas and Sebastian.

Ellie Hudson, Operations Chair

Ellie joined the TC Curling Club in 2015, attending a Learn to Curl class three days after her wedding. She then immediately joined a league with her good friends and teammates “Curl Power.”  Ellie has a background as a non-profit director both as a staff member and though previous board service within the specialty coffee industry, specializing in organizational leadership and sustainability, and enthusiastically joined the TCCC Board in 2016.  A native Yooper, Ellie spent most of her adult life in Chicago after graduating from Northwestern University. She and her husband Dave Waeltz relocated to Traverse City in 2015 to pursue a more recreational lifestyle and are both thrilled to have found the sport of curling and the TC curling community. Dave and Ellie welcomed their daughter into the world the day of the 2019 Clubspiel and she enjoyed attending the 2019 Bombspiel as a 3-week old.

Lowell Gruman, Board Member

Lowell Gruman is Managing Partner at Boomerang Catapult, a Traverse City, Michigan-based venture capital investor. He is a Governance Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors, and serves on the boards of his firm’s portfolio companies as well as other private companies and non-profit organizations in the US. After a 30-year career in investment banking and finance in Hong Kong and Singapore with Citibank, Oaktree Capital and HJ Heinz Company, he was Executive Director with molecular diagnostics startup IncellDx in Menlo Park, California before returning to Traverse City in 2015.

A native of Madison, Wisconsin and a high school curler, Gruman is an honors graduate in physics and philosophy from Dartmouth College. He lives in Traverse City with his wife of 37 years, Mary Noel King Gruman.

Lane Plamondon, Board Member

Jeff Snover, Board Member

Jeff Snover retired from the US Army as a Logistics Warrant Office in 2003 after suffering a spinal cord injury from a falling tree while in Tennessee on leave, only three months after serving in Iraq. After his retirement Jeff sought to continue serving in other capacities. He served as the Vice President of the South Eastern Paralyzed Veterans of America from 2004-2007. Jeff Co founded and served as the Executive Director for Champions Made From Adversity a Paralympic Sport Club in Augusta Georgia from 2007-2014. The organization was recognized in 2010 as “Paralympic Sport Club of the Year” by the United States Olympic Committee.  Jeff attended a wheelchair curling clinic in 2014 in Charlotte NC. Jeff was hooked at the first stone he threw and traveled 3 hours twice a week to Charlotte NC from Augusta GA to throw stones with other wheelchair curlers. Jeff tried out for the US Wheelchair Curling team in 2018 and was selected to the development team in 2018 and again in 2019. Jeff spends time practicing, attending high performance camps with the US Wheelchair curling team and enjoys teaching other wheelchair users the sport.  When not on the ice he enjoys handcycling, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.  Jeff currently lives in Lake City where he and his wife Cheryl moved to in 2016.
