Board, Operations, and Committees

Board of Directors

Meet the people who volunteer their time to lead the governance, strategy, and financial health of the Traverse City Curling Club:

Cara Colburn, Board President

Shawn Winter, Vice President of Development Board and Chair of Dedicated Ice

Shawn and his wife returned to Traverse City in 2015 after ten years in Virginia. New to the community, and upon his wife’s urging, they participated in a Learn To Curl class that fall to try something new. They were instantly hooked. Joining the TC Curling Club wasn’t only a fun recreational opportunity, it was a great way to stay active through the winter and plug into a whole new community.

Shawn joined the Board in the summer of 2017 after becoming involved in the efforts to secure a dedicated ice facility. As the chair of the Dedicated Ice Committee he uses his background in urban planning to collaborate with other club members, potential community partners, and property owners to continue working towards the goal of providing a permanent home for the club to grow and flourish. He and his wife continue to curl together throughout the season and look forward to bringing their daughter into the sport one day to make it a true family affair.

Ellie Hudson, Vice President

Ellie joined the TC Curling Club in 2015, attending a Learn to Curl class three days after her wedding. She then immediately joined a league with her good friends and teammates “Curl Power.”  Ellie has a background as a non-profit director both as a staff member and though previous board service within the specialty coffee industry, and enthusiastically joined the TCCC Board in 2016.  A native Yooper, Ellie spent most of her adult life in Chicago after graduating from Northwestern University.  She and her husband Dave Waeltz relocated to Traverse City in 2015 to pursue a more recreational lifestyle and are both thrilled to have found the sport of curling and the TC curling community.

Jill Riecke, Board Secretary

Jill started curling at the age of 12 in a very small town in the Canadian prairie province of Saskatchewan. As for most growing up there, curling was a way of life and she became involved in many leagues and bonspiels and eventually curled quite competitively in high school. Her career as an orthoptist brought her to Michigan almost 20 years ago, and she has had limited opportunities to curl since. She is thrilled to see curling come to TC and very excited to be able to share her knowledge and love of the game with our board and with the community. See you in Learn To Curl class!

Chuck Pittenger, Board Treasurer

Dennis Brodeur, Board Member

Kevin Byrne, Board Member

Lane Plamondon, Board Member

Jeff Snover, Board Member

Dave Eggli, Immediate Past President

With a background in non-profit management, a love of any sport on ice, and having served on other sport-related boards, becoming involved with the TC Curling Club was a simple decision. A longtime fan of watching curling on TV, Dave is excited to help bring this great sport to the community. He is a native of Traverse City, and works as a Primary Care Account Rep for the American Cancer Society. He is married to his best friend, Charlene, and they have 2 boys, Rick and Scott, and a dog named Zetterberg.

Don Piche, Founding President

Dr. Don Piche is no stranger to Centre Ice. Having spent years as a hockey coach, referee, player and fan, he was also a confessed closet curling fan…until now! After years of watching Olympic curling, conversations led to bringing curling to TC for our April 2014 Open House. The success of this event and the enthusiasm that ensued led to the formation of the TC Curling Club. The success seen in the growth of the club was recognized in 2016, as Don was named US Curling Association’s Volunteer of the Year.  He is married to Dr. Julie Brons, his partner at Performance Chiropractic. Together they have four boys, Keenan, Nikolaj, Jonas and Sebastian.
